Assessment
Students will also be informally assessed through the use of mini whiteboards, cold calling, warm calling, show call, call and response as part of retrieval quizzes, prerequisite knowledge checks, checks for understanding, exam style questions and exit tickets to ensure that they are securing the required knowledge to be successful in their learning.
For Key Stage 3 we use assessments written by departments. The first assessment is sat in Term 3 and is completed in class covering the content covered in Terms 1, 2 and 3. The second assessment is sat in Term 6 and is completed in the sports hall to give students the experience of sitting an examination-style assessment.
For Key Stage 4 and 5 we use examination style papers, either a full past paper or an amalgamation of past paper questions. In autumn of year 10 and year 12 we only give a percentage as they have only covered a small proportion of the course and these are done in class. From the summer of year 10 and year 12, all assessments happen in the hall and are graded using the exam board grade boundaries for the course.
For all students we use Rank Order Assessment (ROA) which is used in many schools, locally and in the Greenshaw Learning Trust. It is the most accurate way to track a student’s progress from assessment to assessment in subjects and gives students a true picture of the impact. This is celebrated through an assembly where we share the top 50 students for attainment and the top 50 most improved students.
Reports are shared after each assessment with the following information:
- Attendance to date
- Your child's percentage in each subject assessment
- The average percentage achieved by the year group in each subject assessment
- Your child's rank in the year group
- Their attitude to learning in each subject
