Careers Update

A Huge Well Done to Our Students on Work Experience Week!
We are incredibly proud of our students who had a fantastic time during Work Experience Week. Over 220 students across Year 10 and Year 12 took part, gaining valuable insights across a wide range of roles in businesses both within our local community and beyond including Saudi Arabia and Dubai for some lucky students.
This success wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of parents and local businesses—thank you for helping to secure such a broad and enriching array of placements.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to our site team, kitchen staff, and teachers who provided in-school placements, allowing students to experience the world of work from within our own community.
I had the pleasure of visiting some of our students during their placements, and I was so impressed with their professionalism, enthusiasm, and growing employability skills. It was wonderful to hear such positive feedback about how they got on. I hope they carry fond memories of the week and feel it was a valuable step towards future opportunities.
Guess my Job
On 4th June, Year 8 took part in a Guess My Job event sponsored by AWE, is an interactive workshop that introduces young people to different jobs, broadening their horizons and encouraging an interest in STEM. The session is facilitated by EBP and supported by volunteers across different organisations. Students ‘turn career detective’ by asking a range of questions in order to work out the different jobs of the volunteers. Some volunteers bring props and photos and students are surprised to learn the wide range of opportunities available in the working world. We had a wide range of visitors with fascinating careers in science, telecommunications, marketing and finance.
Summary of impact of event
This was a very well-received workshop, with 87% of students improving their knowledge of AWE and 95% of students improving their knowledge of the jobs discussed. 96% said they found the workshop valuable.
SSE STEM Workshop – Inspiring Future Engineers
On Friday 11th July, a group of Year 9 students took part in an exciting STEM workshop delivered by two graduates from SSE. The aim of the session was to provide students with a deeper understanding of the varied roles available in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics within the energy sector.
SSE is a leading generator of renewable and flexible energy in the Great Britain and Ireland markets, and one of the world’s fastest-growing electricity networks companies. The workshop gave students valuable insights into the different career pathways available, including apprenticeships, traineeships, sponsored degrees, and graduate schemes.
It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about the wide range of roles open to both boys and girls, and to see engineering and STEM-related careers as accessible, exciting, and rewarding options for their future.
Thank you to SSE for delivering such an informative and inspiring session!
