Park House School

A Welcome Return – Jonathan Joseph Visits Park House

We were thrilled to welcome back former student and international rugby star Jonathan Joseph (JJ) to Park House School earlier this term. JJ, who played for London Irish and Bath in the English Premiership, was capped 54 times for England and toured New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions in 2017. He’s currently playing for Biarritz in France and dropped in while back in the UK visiting family.

I had the pleasure of hosting a Q&A session with our Year 10 boys’ and girls’ rugby teams—both of whom enjoyed fantastic seasons this year. The boys finished as runners-up in the County Cup, while the girls reached the last eight at the prestigious Rosslyn Park Sevens.

JJ spoke warmly about his time at Park House, his early rugby days with Newbury RFC, and the highs and challenges of life as a professional player. His honesty and humour made for a memorable session that clearly inspired our students.

A standout moment from the visit was JJ presenting the school with a signed England shirt—worn during the 2016 Test match against Australia—which will take pride of place in the Joseph House area. He also spent time chatting and taking photos with students, leaving many with lasting memories.

As he nears the end of his playing career, JJ shared his ambition to move into coaching once he hangs up his boots. With a return to England likely when his contract in France ends, we hope to see him back at Park House again before long.
