Spring Equinox Dance Performance
On Wednesday 2nd April, Park House School Senior Dance Company were invited to perform at Spring Equinox, a school and community Youth Dance platform which takes place yearly at The Corn Exchange, Newbury. This was an exciting event where all the participants became part of the audience to watch the show and be inspired by the talent, flair and variety of all the dance pieces. Several local schools such as Park House, St Bartholomew’s, Trinity and Mary Hare all created choreography for the show but there were other community dance groups such as Just Ballet, Steps Ahead and the popular Sonia Brown Dancers who also joined the programme to entertain the audience.
Park House School Senior Dance Company, known as ELITE, were selected to represent the school. The dancers in Elite, from Years 9 to 12, gather weekly to train, rehearse and create choreography for live theatre performances throughout the year. The students are all very passionate about their dancing and take commitment to the company vey seriously. We are also fortunate to have an ex-student Aimeé Shannon join us as a volunteer each week at class. Aimeé trained professionally at The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts before completing a graduate training programme with Yasmin Vardimon Dance Company. Aimeé is an incredibly talented dancer who inspires the Elite company with her powerful performance and inventive choreography.
Mrs Mawazini and Aimeé collaborated to create a quirky, entertaining piece of choreography inspired by CDK Dance Company’s popular YouTube work Somebody That I Used to Know. The performance was received so well by both the audience and also the event organiser Mrs Kelleher-Byrne. At the end of the evening, Mrs Byrne thanked Park House School for having supported the Spring Equinox event for more than ten years and for always bringing such well- rehearsed and quality choreography. Mrs Mawazini was so proud of the dancers and how well they conducted themselves throughout the evening. The event was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
