Letters to Japan

Life in Tokyo
Letter writing has become a very rare pastime in our modern, technological age; however, since my involvement with a fellow teacher with whom we have had a long standing partnership at Shinagawa Ebara Junior and High integrated school in Tokyo, we are writing those letters once again.
The aim is to assist our friends to improve their written and spoken English. Whilst learning from teachers, books and the internet is of course important, live projects such as these letters are a powerful way of reinforcing that learning. Our Year 8 students have been helping to do just that.
During half term I sent a package of letters to Hiroko Kansi, my fellow colleague in Tokyo, and she emailed me back during the holiday to say that they had arrived...including an early Christmas card.
Mr Gook’s English class wrote the initial letters and they are delighted to now receive the replies (including a Christmas card each) from the Japanese class.
Lets see if we can continue as an extra curricular group learning about Japan and it’s wonderful and varied culture whilst writing letters.
