House System Update

House System Update: A Thrilling Month of Competitions!
The House System has been buzzing with activity over the past few weeks, with students stepping up to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and competitive spirit. From bridge-building challenges to heated debates, it's been fantastic to see such high levels of participation and enthusiasm!
STEM-SATIONAL: Who Built the Strongest Bridge?
Our latest House competition, STEM-SATIONAL, put students’ engineering and problem-solving skills to the test! The challenge? Build the strongest bridge possible using only straws and tape, while sticking to a strict budget. It was a true test of planning, strategy, and construction skills as teams worked against the clock to design structures that could withstand the most weight.
The competition was fierce, with some impressively strong (and some not-so-strong!) designs making their way to the testing stage. As the weights piled on, the tension in the room was high until finally, we had our winners:
🥇 Joseph House stormed to victory with an outstanding bridge that held the most weight.
🥈 Chaffey House followed in second place with a strong and well-planned design.
🥉 Croft House secured third place with a solid attempt.
🏅 Albert House came in fourth, but their teamwork and effort were commendable!
A huge well done to all students who took part. This competition showcased some truly brilliant engineering minds. Who knows, maybe we’ve got future architects and structural engineers among us!
House Debating: Should Social Media Be Banned?
Meanwhile, our House Debating competition has launched with a bang! The motion up for discussion is:
🗣 "This house moves to ban social media in the UK!"
With passionate arguments on both sides, students have been engaging in lively debates, exploring the impact of social media on society, mental health, free speech, and even the economy. Some teams have argued that social media is essential for communication and education, while others have taken the stance that it causes harm and should be restricted.
It’s been fantastic to see so many students stepping up to share their opinions, challenge each other’s views, and develop their confidence in public speaking. The live finals will be happening soon, so watch this space to see which House takes the title of best arguers in the school!
House Sports: The Competition is On!
The excitement continues with House Sports currently taking place, as students battle it out in Girls’ Netball and Boys’ Football. Players have been showing determination, teamwork, and skill, with plenty of goals, interceptions, and fast-paced action on display.
With house points on the line, every match counts, so whether you’re on the pitch, on the court, or cheering from the sidelines, your support makes a difference!
Results will be announced soon, so keep an eye out to see which House comes out on top.
Charity Power Hour: A Huge Success!
On Friday 21st March, students came together for a Charity Power Hour, raising over £120. This was an amazing effort, and all money raised will be split between the four House charities and Comic Relief, supporting fantastic causes both locally and nationally.
A massive thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and supported the event! If you’d still like to contribute, donations can be made via MCAS, our online student payment portal.
