Rosslyn Park Rugby 7s Tournament

Year 10 & Year 11 girls

On Monday 24th March the U16 Girls Park House School Rugby 7s team travelled to South West London to compete at the International Rosslyn Park Rugby 7s Tournament.

The team reached the Quarter Finals of the Cup competition, this meant they were in the Top 8 out of the 50 sides that entered in a competition that has teams travel from across the UK and World (e.g. Dubai and Kenya) to compete. This was a phenomenal result! Due to our performances throughout the day a number of our players were scouted by the Ultimate Rugby 7s Academy and should hopefully be attending training camps this Summer.

The tournament squad contained players from across Year 10 and Year 11. With some students having played club level rugby for many years with students such as Emily Bird, Rachel Hanna, Evie Tatam and Beth Adams having recently represented Berkshire. Whilst other students had only recently started playing rugby and have developed incredibly fast. The way all players have improved at training with Mr King and Mr Wicks since January has been fantastic to see.

Their achievements at the tournament were incredible, all the girls played superbly, they were a testament to the school throughout the day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, tenacity and commitment to play their very best. and we look forward to seeing how the girls continue to progress.

Year 11 boys

After the heroics of the girls’ performance, the boys’ team took to the sun-drenched, hard-baked pitches of Wimbledon Common, ready for their own challenge. They began with a narrow loss to a strong Bishop Wordsworth School side but showed incredible resilience, bouncing back in style with a commanding 33-12 victory over Birkdale School. In their final match, they faced a well-drilled Barnard Castle School team, falling just short despite a determined effort. It was a fantastic learning experience for the squad, and they represented the state sector immensely well!

Year 8 boys

They wrapped up the action-packed week on Friday with energy, enthusiasm, and determination that could light up a stadium. The boys arrived bright and early, buzzing with excitement for the day ahead. "I’ve been up since 4… it’s like Christmas Day!" one of the boys exclaimed, and it was clear their excitement was only just beginning.

From the moment they hopped onto the bus, the air was electric, with laughter and singing filling the journey. The buzz was infectious, and the boys were ready to take on whatever came their way.

The competition was fierce, starting with Maidstone Grammar School. Although the first match didn’t go their way, the boys did not back down. With fantastic tries from Jude B and Freddie S, their fighting spirit was clear, and they kept pushing forward, showing incredible resilience.

The second match also ended in a loss, but the boys had every reason to hold their heads high. Leading for much of the game, a few minor mistakes cost them the victory. But in rugby 7s, those fine margins make all the difference. Oscar L, Oscar M, and Jake L scored some spectacular tries, giving the crowd something to cheer for and showing what these players are truly capable of.

Further tries on the day came from Sonny W, Joe V, Noah B. Throughout the day, the team’s dedication was unwavering. They fought hard, played with passion, and learned invaluable lessons that will serve them for years to come. The boys have set a solid foundation and are now even more hungry to compete with the best. Their drive, determination, and teamwork were the true highlights, impressing not only coaches and peers but also their parents, who were equally amazed by the team’s efforts.

This week has proven that these boys have what it takes to rise to any challenge. The future is bright, and the next chapter in their rugby journey is bound to be full of excitement and success!
