Careers Update

Year 9 Work Shadow Day

On Tuesday 18th March all of Year 9 were off school for a Work Shadow Day. This was a huge success with over 95% of students participating. We are very grateful to all of you for accommodating your sons and daughters for this worthwhile day and I am so pleased at the variety of industries and organisations they got exposure to. This has enabled students to get a taste of work and start thinking about their work experience week in Year 10.

I would also like to make a special mention to Stephanie Hailey and Emily Warren from Amberjack who hosted a number of our students for the Work Shadow Day. I really appreciate the wonderful fun packed day you organised.

Guests from BP and Vodafone are welcomed into Sixth Form Centre

On 3rd March, we were delighted to welcome Will Welch, an ex-student, who came in to share his experience of the incredible degree apprenticeship he's pursuing at BP. His presentation provided valuable insight into the process and gave our students a firsthand understanding of what it's like to balance work and learning in a real-world setting.

We were also fortunate to have Andrew Murchison from Vodafone, visit and share insights about the excellent opportunities available for young people in the area. They highlighted a range of apprenticeships in key sectors, providing our Year 12 students with a valuable first-hand look at these career paths. This session helped them better prepare for applications and set themselves up for success in the year ahead.

Wizeup and Newbury Building Society - Financial Workshop

On Monday, 24th March 2025, Year 12 students took part in a Financial Workshop as part of the PSHE curriculum, in partnership with WizeUp and Newbury Building Society. The session, held at school, was intensive but covered key financial topics to prepare students for adult life. Including Student Finance and Apprenticeships, Credit Cards and Credit Ratings, Tax, Pensions, Budgeting, Savings investments and Mortgages. Overall, students left the workshop feeling more confident about managing their finances and ready to take on the challenges of adulthood.
