Hamnet Trip

On Thursday 25th January the Tutor Time Reading Programme Co-ordinator, Mrs Kirby, organised her first trip to bring literature to life.

Twenty nine students and three staff headed off to London for the matinee performance of “Hamnet” a book which is read during tutor time in Year 10.

The students came from Year 9 & Year 10, and Mrs Kirby was assisted on the trip by Mrs Sheldon (exam invigilator) and Miss Blanchard (Assistant SENCo)

The play was an amazing production and really brought the book to life. The Garrick Theatre, in the West End was a sell out. It is a small, old fashioned theatre - some of our taller students commented on how the seats were actually designed for small Victorian ladies! Every so often you could hear a tube train rumbling underneath the theatre.

The students also enjoyed the bus journey which took us into the heart of London, past many famous sights and landmarks.

Our students were an absolute credit to the school. They interacted positively with members of the public around them and were treated to an ice cream during the interval by Mrs Kirby.

Mr King called Mrs Kirby to check on the trip’s progress as we were a little late returning due to the rush hour traffic. Mrs Kirby could not hear him very well as there was a lot of singing on the bus on the way back, with Frozen and Abba being particularly popular.

Shortly after returning from the trip Mr King received a letter from a member of the public telling him he should be very proud of his students for their behaviour and attitude. This was a great recognition for the fantastic behaviour on the trip, and a lot of effort for the member of the public to find the school address and Mr King’s name and write a card.
