SCIENCE

The Science Department stimulates students’ interest in science and prepares them for further scientific study as informed and responsible citizens of the future. The use and importance of science in everyday life is emphasised. Through focusing on investigative work students are given the opportunity to develop a range of skills and processes that are an essential part of a scientist’s work.

Students are taught to develop an enquiring, critical and analytical approach to their studies. Housed within nine laboratories our well-resourced department has established a reputation for high standards.

At Key Stage 3 well-qualified scientists teach a broad and balanced course through a variety of teaching strategies appropriate to students’ individual needs. The Key Stage 4 GCSE Science course is taught by groups of well qualified specialist teachers. Able science students may be selected to study for a separate GCSE in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. At Key Stage 5 A level courses are very popular in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
