'Light the Darkness' - Remembering Holocaust Memorial Day

Updated: Aug 4, 2021

As with many other events, Holocaust Memorial Day was marked differently this year. Students working remote were able to get involved and play their part. An assembly was available to watch during tutor time on Wednesday. This was followed with discussions in their tutor sessions later in the week.

The UK Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 ceremony was streamed online at 7pm, being the first fully digital Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony. Students were asked to get ready to 'Light the Darkness' and join households across the UK by lighting candles.

' There were a number of thoughtful and respectful discussions and photos that were shared with us from our brilliant students for Holocaust Memorial Day last week. The maturity of how they were able to process, recognise and develop their knowledge on the importance of remembering this harrowing event was outstanding. Head of History - Miss Emily Davis

'It was inspiring to see how well Park House students embraced this year's theme for Holocaust Memorial Day. The call to 'be the light in the darkness' resonates with young people in these troubled times and serves as a powerful message on the importance of trying to embody the best qualities of humanity. In this way, Park House students and young people the world over can ensure that the past is not forgotten but also that the future can be a lot brighter if they stand in solidarity behind the human values that matter.'
