GCSE & Post-16 Results 2023

This year our GCSE results were incredibly impressive. Whilst progress scores haven't yet been released, results were significantly up on last year, with the percentage of students achieving a grade 5+ in English and Maths moving from 45% to 52% and the average grade increasing to 4.6. This is despite a huge deflation in grades across the country, to bring grades back in line with pre-COVID thresholds. As a result, the Department for Education progress figures, or P8 sits at +0.29 which is well above both the national and West Berkshire averages. To achieve the best results since 2014 (when number grades replaced letters) in a year when grades were scaled back is a wonderful achievement for these students.

It was a similar story for Sixth Form; despite a national picture of declining results, we saw a vastly improved picture, with an average grade of a ‘B’. The percentage of A*- B grades rose from 38% last year to 53% in 2023, notably outperforming our neighbours St Barts! In addition, we saw an increase in the number of students gaining places at top universities. As a result, this means our Sixth Form is now in a very strong position and still welcoming students to join our Sixth Form and be part of this successful culture. These wonderful exam results sit alongside a variety of other improvements this year and I am fiercely proud of both our staff and your wonderful children who have worked so hard to make this happen.
