Young Sports Personality of the Year

Annabel Chaffey Bobsleigh

Annabel Chaffey, recipient of the Headteacher's Living the Values Award (Personal Best issue 31), has added to her trophy cabinet by winning Young Sports Personality of the Year at the Get Berkshire Active Inspiration & Participation Awards on Friday.

Personal Best - Issue 31

Over the last 16 months Annabel has become Team GB Bobsleigh's great young hope for the Youth Olympics in 2016 with Team GB's Performance Director calling her "the best driver for her age he's ever seen".

In March last year Annabel competed at the British Championships held in Austria (Personal Best issue 29) along with fellow student Codie Burnett - her first time on an ice track and with only three days practice. Annabel and the team secured their fastest time and finished sixth, highlighting the progress made in a short space of time - a testament to her fantastic attitude and hard work.

Annabel is the youngest girl to compete at the British Championships and it has taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears for her to get this far balancing a rigorous training program with her GSCE and A Level studies along with competing at county level in badminton, playing for various school teams and running for Newbury Athletics Club.

Well done Annabel - you can be sure we are all very proud of you!
