3 July 2020 Update

Dear Parents, Carers and Students

I hope everyone remains safe and well.

Further to my briefing on Wednesday and the Secretary of State’s formal announcements yesterday, we will now be working flat out to firm up details of the arrangements for return in September. There is a guidance document of 35 pages to now work through (to add to the 80 pages which arrived simultaneously from Ofqual, the body which has the overview of public exams). Some light bedtime reading!

We will be holding a staff meeting on Monday to reflect on and refine the plans. As I said on Wednesday, the intention will be to give as much certainty as possible prior to us breaking up - subject, of course to any reviews that may be needed if national or local circumstances change during August.

Very first reaction: I think as a Leadership Team, we at least feel more confident than we did on Wednesday about the flexibility we appear to be being given to offer as full a curriculum as possible. It’s all the detail that follows from it that is going to be the challenge! As for the exams for the summer of 2021, we have to say that on first reading, it all seems very sensible and pragmatic. So far so good!

Given the time needed to work details up over the weekend, there’s probably not much more to add for today - other than to thank you for your ongoing support, your regular messages and generous words are so appreciated, and to wish you a very good weekend. As we approach it, and celebrate ‘Independence Day’, I am minded of the quote from the late Scottish Clergyman, Peter Marshall:

May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right.

Stop Press Notices:

Free School Meal vouchers for the summer break will be paid in advance of the summer in one voucher.

There is a Q & A session with Izzy Fry, ex PHS student and now GB Athlete on Thursday 9 July at 6pm.  If you are studying GCSE PE or BTEC SPORT this will be really valuable to you, giving a great insight into her training, coaching, performance pathway, nutrition.  If you are interested then please email Mrs Clarke your questions for IZZY by TUESDAY 7th JULY .

Very best wishes

Derek Peaple
