Textiles

Gone are the days of peg bags and bean bags. Here at Park House we explore a wide range of techniques and processes that inspire and enthuse our students. The Textiles Department is a hive of activity and there is always something going on whether it be a workshop by a visiting artist, our regular knitting group or students working on their individual projects.

Our aim is to make this subject enjoyable and accessible to all of our students. We enjoy seeing how their creativity develops and how they gain confidence in their ideas, no matter how whacky they think they are! So, in order to help them see what amazing things can be achieved once a year we take our students to London to visit The Knitting and Stitching Show. Here students are introduced to the endless possibilities with fibre and thread. The show offers inspiration and an insight to how popular Textiles is and more importantly where it can lead, whether it be art school, journalism or as a practising artist.

In Years 7 & 8 Textiles is part of Technology, however we like to add a creative twist on the projects in preparation for GCSE Textile Art starting in Year 9. Those that opt to take the subject will have the opportunity to develop the skills they learnt in Years 7 and 8, alongside trying out lots of new ones. This then forms a solid foundation for those students wishing to take Textiles at A Level.

The department prides itself on the outstanding works of art our students create and at the end of the year we love nothing more than to celebrate their achievements in an exhibition together with Art and Photography.
