So as we move into the New Year, it may be instructive to reflect on the wise words of an American President (they may after all soon become an increasingly rare commodity!)

That's why developing our students' self-confidence and the skills to shape their own futures within a values-centred framework has to be so central to all that we aim to do.

It of course already is. Two features stand out in current practice... and are going to see an even greater emphasis in the course of the coming year...

Debating Matters

Debating. Ever since our Sixth Formers became regional 'Debating Matters' Champions in our debut year in the competition in 2015, we've been looking to weave the intellectual and presentational skills associated with articulating a convincing argument into as much of what we do as possible - starting with the issues raised in our thematic Wednesday afternoon Character and Values programme.

There's been some stunning successes on the way...

Reaching the national final of the Design Museum's Design Ventura Competition, where Year 10 students had to design and present Dragon's Den-style a product for sale in the Museum's shop...

And the E-Water Pay project concept and pitch which landed then Year 10s Jack, Laurence and Connor the national TeenTech Award title...

That national award highlights a second focus area for 2017: digital creativity; the flexible application of computational thinking and technology to address issues and solve problems. It's what's secured secured us the inaugural Gold Award....
