Stepping out... Moving on up

 

Whilst not as instantly catchy as the emblematic ‘Mr Blue Sky’, ‘Stepping Out’ also features on The Electric Light Orchestra’s iconic 1977 album Out of Blue. An album played relentlessly on my portable radio cassette player (anyone under 40 needs to now google) on return home from school every afternoon…

1997. A year when, on reflection, I began to start ‘stepping out’ at that school; finding my feet during the course of the first after leaving primary, finding out what I was good at and beginning to think about a more independent future ahead.

 

Because the rhythm of school life does of course define so many transition points for young people. Transition to Park House is marked by a very special first day, as I blogged a couple of weeks ago...

But it doesn’t stop there. We capture and display those initial reactions to the challenge and opportunities of change, subsequently reflecting on them as students grow and settle into flow of secondary school life…

 
Four years on, and they will be preparing to step out again and consider the next key change in their education lives; the choice of course for post-16 study.

With a month to go until Sixth Form Open Evening, we especially look forward to those young people who will take the opportunity step out from their current education settings to think about the unique range of post-16 programmes on offer. They are so welcome, and add so much....

And then, two - or three - years beyond that what is for many the final educational transition to university, which for many has already started with the  pre-UCAS autumn application round of visits to open days and taster sessions across the country. So many more exciting journeys lie ahead.
